The Taigei-class submarines are successors to the Soryu-class. The lead vessel, Taigei, entered service in March 2022, followed by the second vessel, Hakugei, in March of the following year. While resembling the Soryu-class externally, they feature lithium-ion batteries enabling higher capacity and output, resulting in improved submerged endurance.
