Time of Empire is a real-time worker placement civilization development game. In Time of Empire, players play across three distinct eras. Each era consists of three phases. The main Action Phase is played in real time, with actions managed by sand timers representing workers, making it very busy. There are nine types of actions to choose from, ranging from acquiring resources and constructing buildings, to gaining technologies like “Metallurgy” or “Space Conquest,” and even encountering leaders such as the First Emperor or Napoleon. After this 9-minute phase concludes, the scoring phase begins, converting players' actions in that era into points. Players complete three eras, and the player with the highest total score wins.
