Crafted by Japanese artisans, each piece is carefully made using only wood harvested that winter. Beyond their beautiful form, grain, and texture, they enhance everyday home-cooked meals and offer exceptional usability. A renowned piece that won the Good Design Award in 1996, it remains one of our store's long-selling items. This “Chestnut” variety has long been deeply connected to Japanese life. Heavy, hard, resilient, and water-resistant, it has served as the foundation supporting homes from below and as the thick, sturdy beams and pillars often seen in traditional Japanese houses. Its cream color, reminiscent of the simple, cheerful chestnut fruit, gives it a very gentle impression. The logs are felled during winter dormancy, before spring budding when moisture content is low, and milled immediately. They are then carefully dried before processing. Each piece boasts a unique grain pattern, a hallmark of natural wood, with a smooth, silky feel.
