Description
FineMolds Zero-Type Carrier-Based Fighter - Plastic Model - FZ03
FineMolds 1/48 Imperial Japanese Navy Zero Carrier-Based Fighter Model 52 Type A (Mitsubishi) Plastic Model Kit FZ03
The Zero Carrier-Based Fighter Model 52 Type A (commonly known as the Zero Fighter Model 52 Type A) is a variant of the Zero Fighter Model 52 featuring increased ammunition capacity for its 20mm machine guns. The original Model 52 equipped the Type 99 20mm Type 2 Machine Gun Model 3 on its wings, which could hold 100 rounds per gun using drum magazines. The Model 52-Ko was modified to use the belt-fed Type 4, allowing it to carry 125 rounds.
Because the updated 20mm machine gun's mounting position was moved forward, a trapezoidal cover was added to the protruding base of the machine gun on the leading edge of the main wing.
Furthermore, while the original Model 52 had a teardrop-shaped bulge under the main wing to house the drum magazine, this bulge was eliminated on the Model 52-K due to the switch to belt feeding. Furthermore, all Mitsubishi Type 52 Model Ka aircraft feature the characteristic short heat shields on the exhaust outlets of their thrust-type single exhaust pipes.
This product meticulously recreates these differences using new molds.
Notably, the appearance featuring the Mitsubishi-specific short heat shield is the first three-dimensional representation in a 1/48 scale Zero fighter plastic model kit.
Markings include decals for aircraft belonging to the original 343rd Air Group and 221st Air Group.
The 343rd Air Group aircraft depicted is the one currently preserved at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Hamamatsu Air Museum.
