JR Kyushu Bus was established in February 2001 and commenced operations in July of the same year, taking over from the JR Kyushu Motor Transport Division. Initially, local routes originating from the former Japanese National Railways (JNR) buses were the mainstay, but later, express buses originating from Hakata became the core service. Among these, the “B&S Miyazaki” service, which began operation with the full opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen in 2011, features seamless transportation with the Kyushu Shinkansen, a characteristic unique to the JR Kyushu Group. It shares the same design as the 800 series “Tsubame” Shinkansen trains, and integrated tickets combining the bus and Shinkansen are also sold.
