Woody Joe - Suimayo Style - Wooden Model - Assembly Kit - Scenery
Woody Joe Suimayo Style Wooden Model Assembly Kit
During the Kamakura period, the method of using water power to grind large quantities of wheat, rice, tea leaves, and other grains with stone mills was called “Suimayo Style.”
The revered monk Shōichi Kokushō, born in Tochi-sawa, Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City, who walked the Buddhist path from childhood, brought this technique back from the land of Eikoku.
The tea seeds Seikitsu Kokushi brought back from his rigorous training journey in Song China, along with the Suimayō method (depicted at the end of the Important Cultural Property “Illustrated Map of Mountains in Song China” preserved at Tōfuku-ji Temple in Kyoto), became the foundation for modern industry and culture, bringing benefits to all corners of Japan.
Cooperation: Shōichi Kokushō Commemoration Association (Secretariat: Shizuoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry) Reference drawings provided by: Shizuoka City
About the Kit
Turning the waterwheel rotates the gears, causing the pestle to pound on the first floor and the stone mill to turn on the second floor, moving the sieve side to side. By assembling the wooden parts step-by-step, you can enjoy learning how the “Suigama-sama” mechanism works.
