T-Lab - Polepole Animals - Pig
Each Polepole wooden animal is meticulously handcrafted by artisans, carefully sanded multiple times for a smooth finish. “Polepole” means “slowly” in Swahili. The soft texture and gentle expressions of Polepole animals bring moments of comfort and relaxation into daily life. T-Lab's wooden interior pieces are entirely handmade by numerous artisans in our dedicated workshop on Bali, Indonesia. First, square wood blocks are roughly cut to shape using flat templates, then dried over time. Afterward, the form is refined solely through sanding. Achieving identical shapes requires considerable skill. Once shaped, each piece is hand-painted and finished individually. The wood used is a southern species of white wood, scientifically named Albizia falcata. It is also known in Japan as “Nanyo-kiri” (South Sea Paulownia). This tree grows exceptionally fast. Not only does it not contribute to deforestation through logging, but it also enriches poor soil, leading to widespread planting across tropical regions. Since only solid natural wood is used, each piece features the unique ‘grain’ and “wood patterns” characteristic of natural wood. Please appreciate these as the natural expression of the wood. As each piece is entirely handmade, from carving to finishing, subtle variations exist between individual items. Since untreated solid wood is used, avoid placing it in extremely dry locations, humid areas, or spots exposed to prolonged direct sunlight. This is not a children's toy; please handle with care.
