Its prototype was the ‘Plastic Train Rail Set’ released in 1959, which was played with by rolling it by hand. Since then, improvements have been made to make assembly easier and reduce malfunctions, but no fundamental model changes have been made. In the 1960s, a 3-car set with a small built-in motor was released, and the 3-car set remains the standard configuration today.
