Description
Aoshima Cultural Textbook Co. - Sailing Ship Series - No. 9 - Christian Radick - Plastic Model
The world's most beautiful sailing ship arrives..
Built in 1937 as a training ship for a Norwegian private school. Immediately after returning from its maiden voyage, war began and it was incorporated into the navy. It was later requisitioned by the German military and used as a submarine tender. While moored, it suffered Allied air raids. After the war, it was found half-sunken, salvaged by the Allies, and returned to Norway. Repaired in dry dock and restored to service, it sailed again in 1947, participating in sailing festivals and races. It can still be seen today. Its white sails, white masts, and white hull symbolize Norway, a nation of fishermen.
