The FD3S, the third-generation RX-7, had evolved repeatedly since its October 1991 debut, fulfilling its mission and reaching perfection as the world's only rotary sports car. Beloved for 11 long years and truly built to run, the FD3S faced the impact of the Heisei 12 (2000) emissions regulations, leading to the decision to end production in August 2002. Ahead of production's end, the final special limited edition model, the ‘RX-7 Spirit R’, was released in April 2002.\
