The sleeper express “Sakura,” converted to the 20 series in Showa 39 (1964), is a traditional train name representing the Japanese National Railways in both name and reality.
Formations seen during operation from 1965 to 1972 (1965-1972), the train was split and combined at Hizen-Yamaguchi (now: Kohoku) on the Nagasaki Main Line: one section headed for Nagasaki and the other for Sasebo. After splitting, the Sasebo-bound section included a Maya 20 car, converted from the Suh 32 series, serving as a simplified power car.
Later, the “Sakura” was converted to the 14 series and remained in service until Heisei 17 (2005).
We will update the product specifications to current standards, including body-mounted couplers on the locomotive-coupling ends of the Kani 22 and Nahanefu 22, and reproduction of the interior of the Nahanefu 21's conductor's compartment.
Recommended locomotives include the “7008-K DD51 0 Warm Terrain” and the “3060-4 EF65 500 Series P-Type Limited Express Color”.
