During the Pacific War, to compensate for the rapidly increasing losses of destroyers, the Imperial Japanese Navy planned the construction of the simplified Type D destroyer. This is a plastic model assembly kit of the lead ship, the Matsukaze, completed in April 1944.
Featuring the Type D destroyer Matsunaga's defining characteristics—a simple hull and bridge composed of straight lines and flat surfaces, and a second funnel offset to starboard—meticulously modeled to achieve shortened production times and material savings.
The high-angle guns serving as main armament and numerous triple 25mm machine guns convey the fierce battles fought late in the war when U.S. forces held air superiority. Completed length: 143mm.
