Media Reviews and More
Jazz musician Louis Armstrong, affectionately known as “Satchmo,” left his mark on history with his unique raspy voice and melancholic trumpet sound. He left behind numerous famous recordings, including his famous performance of “When the Saints Go Marching In,” which stirs the soul the moment you hear it. He was loved by people all over the world, not only in his native America, but also in Europe, Japan, and even Africa, the land of his roots, as the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. --cd dvd fair
A leading figure in New Orleans jazz. Nicknamed Satchmo (meaning “snapping mouth,” due to his large mouth).
His early performances (in the 1920s), in which he seemed to spit out high notes, are full of vitality and worth listening to.
His unique, gravelly voice is also charming, and he can be said to be a singer who embodies the blues.
He is also known as the first person to record scat singing in jazz history. --cd dvd fair
The exquisite timing and nuance found in Louis Armstrong's music, and his rich personality, which was truly reflected in his performances... These qualities radiate a charm that no group of musicians could ever match. There is hardly anyone who does not feel joy and happiness when listening to Satchmo's music. Born in 1901, died in 1971. --cd dvd fair
About the Artist
Armstrong was born and raised in a relatively poor neighborhood of New Orleans with a large African American population. As a child, he got carried away at a festival, fired a pistol, and was sent to a juvenile detention center. In the 1950s, he had big hits with “It's a Wonderful Life” and “Kiss of Fire”. He also performed in Japan for the first time in 1953. In 1956, he performed with Ella Fitzgerald. In the 1960s, even as the era became dominated by pop music represented by the Beatles, “Hello Dolly” became a million-seller and was accepted by many Americans.
