Description
Fujimi Models - Special Series - No. 47 - Imperial Japanese Navy Destroyers - 2-Ship Set
The Kagerō-class destroyers Hamakaze and Isokaze were also called masterpieces of the Imperial Japanese Navy. During the war, she participated in the Hawaii air raid operation. She then served as an escort for aircraft carriers in the Midway operation, the Battle of the South Pacific, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. She was sunk by air attack during the Okinawa special attack operation of the battleship Yamato on April 7, 1945.
Isokaze was completed at the Imperial Japanese Navy Sasebo Naval Arsenal on December 15, 1940. As a state-of-the-art destroyer, she was assigned to escort carrier task forces immediately after the war began.
Though Isokaze survived numerous naval battles, she was severely damaged by air attacks during the Yamato's Okinawa suicide operation on April 7, 1945, and was scuttled by gunfire from Yukikaze.
