Description
700 - Special Series - No. 35 - Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier - Plastic Model Kit Product Introduction
The Akagi, flagship of Nagumo's Task Force, which supported the rapid advance of the Pacific War, is back with new parts.
This is an unpainted kit that requires glue assembly and painting.
This is a 1/700 scale underwater model that does not include the ship's bottom.
This product is composed of the previous (Special Series) mold and newly designed additional parts.
The aircraft carrier Akagi began construction as a battlecruiser under the 8-8 Hull Plan.
However, under the Washington Naval Treaty, its construction was changed to an aircraft carrier.
When completed in 1927, it had a unique shape with three flight decks, but between 1935 and 1938, it was extensively remodeled into an aircraft carrier with a full-length deck.
After that, it became the mainstay of the Japanese Navy's aircraft carrier force, participating in the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Indian Ocean Operation at the beginning of the Pacific War. This ship was hit by an attack by a US carrier task force during the Midway Island invasion in June 1942. Its aircraft, bombs, and torpedoes ignited, leading to its disposal by torpedoes from destroyers. This product is based on the ship's appearance during the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor and the June 1942 invasion of Midway Island. This ship is modeled after the extensive refit completed in 1938, and includes flight deck decals in its 1941 appearance. The June 1942 Operation MI flight deck also features the Hinomaru (Japanese flag) markings for friend or foe identification, making it suitable for the Midway Island invasion. Newly designed parts are available to standardize the level of detail for equipment and other features between product release dates, with some parts separated for ease of painting. The 9-meter cutter on the boat deck is made in two parts for ease of painting, and the deck platform is available as a separate part, or you can choose to have the deck molded as a single unit.
- The 12-meter motorboat's canvas and wheelhouse/engine room canopy are separate parts to allow for painting. Each part is painted first, and then assembled and glued together later.
- A new chrysanthemum crest has been added to the bow.
- The boat is made up of three parts, with the main body and loading area floor being separate parts, allowing for assembly after painting, eliminating the need for masking.
- The 12-meter motorboat launch can also be recreated without the canvas.
- The uneven shape and light holes on the boat platform are molded to enhance the sense of precision.
- The flight deck markings are also newly produced decals, with white lines and other markings re-examined and included, and the decals have been divided to reduce white space for ease of use.
- Decals have been added for the stern ship name (filled in warship colors) and the stern flight deck struts/white lines.
-The hull has a one-piece structure on both the port and starboard sides.
-The shape that slopes toward the rear of the ship, the numerous portholes, and the complex shape of the hangar side walls are all expressed with one molded part.
-The flight deck is a single piece with intricate carvings such as the wooden deck, windbreak fence, and expansion joints.
-The double flight deck at the rear of the ship is reproduced with a separate part for the lower level.
-The elevator is a separate part.
-The anchor chain deck and short boat deck are expressed with intricate carvings such as the anti-slip split pattern and rails.
-The funnel is made of two parts, the top and bottom glued together.
-The strip patterns on the floor of the anti-aircraft gun emplacements and other parts are expressed with intricate carvings.
-The truss pillars of the flight deck support (rear) are expressed with four-sided carvings.
