Description
Special Series-No-035-EX-1-Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier-Plastic Model Kit
The flagship Akagi of the Nagumo Mobile Force, which supported the rapid advances in the early Pacific War, rendered with detailed sculpted parts.
Adds precision fittings parts to the standard specification (Standard Edition), with carrier aircraft molded in clear plastic for users focused on detailed construction.
This is an unpainted kit requiring glue assembly and painting.
Scale is 1/700, an open-water model without the hull bottom.
The product combines molds from the previous (Special Series) with newly designed (2021) additional parts.
The aircraft carrier Akagi was initially started as a battlecruiser under the 1933 Shipbuilding Program.
Its construction was later changed to an aircraft carrier due to the Washington Naval Treaty. At its completion in 1927, it had a unique hull design with three flight decks. It underwent a major conversion between 1935 and 1938 to become a carrier with a continuous flight deck.
It subsequently became the mainstay of the Imperial Japanese Navy's carrier force, participating in the Pearl Harbor attack at the start of the Pacific War and operations in the Indian Ocean.
During the Midway Island campaign in June 1942, it was hit by attacks from the U.S. carrier task force.
Its aircraft, bombs, and torpedoes ignited, and it was scuttled by destroyer torpedoes.
