Description
Fujimi Models - Imperial Japanese Navy Series - No. 55 - Japanese Navy Heavy Cruisers - FH-55
Newly molded full hull type of the modified Suzuyama-class heavy cruiser “Ibuki” now available.\
\
Scale is 1/700, featuring a full hull specification including the ship's bottom. \
Assembly requires adhesive; painting is necessary.\
The heavy cruiser “Ibuki” was planned under an emergency program in November 1941 (Showa 16), one month before the war began, to supplement wartime losses. Construction commenced at the Kure Naval Arsenal. \
To shorten construction time, work began based on the later-type Mogami-class cruiser Suzuyama. An air defense command post was installed from the outset, the rear mast was moved aft to improve radio capabilities, and the torpedo armament was modified to four quadruple launchers (the Mogami-class had triple launchers). \
Launched in April 1943, after the loss of the main carriers at the Battle of Midway, her construction priority was low. In August, she was converted into a light carrier, with Sasebo Naval Arsenal taking charge. She was a phantom cruiser, reaching 80% completion when the war ended. \
