Ship Model Series-No-1-EX-1-Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship-Plastic Model
Product Description
Reproduces the bridge of the battleship Kongo, one of the battleships active in the Pacific War, at 1/350 scale
This product is an unpainted kit requiring glue assembly and painting.
The battleship Kongo was the lead ship of the Kongo class, ordered and built by Vickers in the UK, and completed in 1913.
After undergoing two subsequent refits, it became a high-speed battleship boasting a speed of 30 knots.
During the Pacific War, it saw wide-ranging action, from direct escort duties for carrier task forces to enemy shore bombardments.
In October 1942, she participated in the bombardment of Guadalcanal airfields alongside the Haruna and accompanied the carrier task force during the Battle of the Philippine Sea. By October 1944, she operated alongside the Yamato and Musashi during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
She was subsequently sunk by torpedoes from a U.S. submarine in the Bashi Channel while returning to Japan.
This product utilizes the mold from the existing 1/350 scale Battleship Kongo.
The model depicts the ship during Operation Shō-1 in October 1944.
The main bridge components are molded in gray, replicating the Sasebo Naval Arsenal color. Clear molded parts are provided for the bridge windows and searchlight signal lamps. A display base and ship name decal are included.
The model reproduces the area from the upper deck to the topmost Type 21 radar, including the forward section extending to the second turret connected to the shelter deck. The bridge is assembled by stacking each level, incorporating tripod supports and rear angle braces.
The shelter deck features finely sculpted wood decking. Separate parts for the ventilation ports and machine gun ammunition boxes on the wood deck reduce the need for separate painting. The 25mm machine guns positioned on all four sides of the bridge are unique to 1/350 scale, with twin/triple mounts consisting of 4 parts.
Windows at five locations—compass bridge, lower lookout, combat bridge, rangefinder station, and upper lookout—are reproduced with clear parts. Each deck level features sculpted details like grating and linoleum fasteners.
The ladder is a separate part. The main gun barrels feature an elevation mechanism. The canvas sections are separate parts for painting convenience. The 4.5-meter rangefinder incorporates polycaps for rotation. Detailed binocular parts enhance the realism at locations like the rangefinder station and anti-aircraft command post. The angle brackets supporting the rangefinder on the bridge rear feature finely engraved holes for added detail.
Delicate parts like the Type 90 Radio Telephone aerial and E27 Radar Detector are reproduced as separate components.
Molded parts consist of three colors: Gray (Sasebo Naval Arsenal color), Transparent, and Black for base parts. Approximately 250 parts total.
