Description
Hobby Japan - Aeterna - 30 min per player - Ages 14+ - Board Game
Aeterna is a game by Martin Wallace themed around the eternal city of Rome.
It features a simple yet thought-provoking game system centered around card drafting, utilizing card effects, resource management, and strategic maneuvering for dominance on the hills. In Aeterna, you lead a Roman clan (Gens) seeking to increase your fame through the three eras of the Roman Kingdom, Roman Republic, and Roman Empire. Your goal is to increase your influence over the city by supporting the conquest of provinces, controlling the Seven Hills of Rome, and contributing to the construction of monuments and buildings.
Disturbances on hills under your direct control could put you at a disadvantage, so always keep an eye on the people to ensure their morale doesn't falter.
If you can form majorities more effectively than other players and manage your cards and resources well, your gens will be recorded in the history books as one of Rome's most important families.
Players draft by selecting one card from the drawn Monument and Province cards and passing the rest to their left neighbor.
After drafting concludes, the game progresses as players take turns performing various actions.
Actions include “Playing Cards” or “Acquiring Figures” to gain resources, fame, or card abilities by constructing monuments, conquering provinces, or gaining allies.
“Building Structures” involves developing hills with settlements that shape Rome, sending citizens there to gain fame.
“Expanding Influence on Hills” further increases fame by sending your citizens to these settlements.
Each hill in Rome is a crucial element in the game. Having more of your citizens on a hill earns you more fame points, but too many citizens on a hill can cause unrest and decay.
Additionally, securing the position of Praefectus can give you a significant advantage.
