Pre-Measurement Precautions
Avoid taking a temperature within 30 minutes after eating, drinking, bathing, exercising, or returning from outdoors. If you remove the thermometer during measurement, start over from the beginning. Measurement Time Measurement time varies depending on the thermometer's type. Even with a predictive thermometer, allow at least 10 minutes for actual measurement. 1. Place the tip of the thermometer in the center of the armpit hollow (hold the thermometer with the tip pointing upward, pressing it in). 2. Position the thermometer at about a 30-degree angle to the upper body and firmly close the armpit. Ensure the armpit is sealed by closing it tightly and pressing the elbow firmly against the side of the body. Turning the palm upward helps close the armpit. Additionally, lightly press the elbow holding the thermometer with your other hand. 3. Remain still until the temperature stabilizes: at least 10 minutes for mercury or actual measurement thermometers, or until the electronic beep sounds for predictive thermometers.
