Amusing Hobby “1/35 British Army FV221 Carnarvon” Plastic Model Kit.
After World War II ended, Western nations witnessed the Soviet Union's new heavy tank, the IS-3, and were shocked by its aggressive silhouette and massive gun.
In Britain, concerns spread that the Centurion, then the main battle tank, might be unable to penetrate this tank's armor. Urgent development of a new heavy tank to counter the IS-3 was demanded.
Britain therefore decided to develop the frozen FV201 heavy tank project to oppose the IS-3.
However, a new problem arose here. Mounting a large-caliber turret on the FV201 chassis was expected to exceed 60 tons in weight. The British had little experience operating tanks of such mass, so they decided to first gather data using a test vehicle.
A test vehicle based on the FV201 chassis, equipped with a 20-pounder tank gun (the same turret as the Centurion), was named the “FV221 Carnarvon.” Approximately ten were produced.
The Carnarvon underwent field trials in various locations and played a significant role in the development of the FV214 Conqueror.
The finished model will be approximately 330mm long.
