Based on the hypothesis that this fundamental tactile sensation might be vibrations created by airflow within the body, synchronized with the pet's heartbeat and breathing, we experimented and incorporated breathing and heartbeat expressions using a vibration actuator. Actually, this sense of breathing was an idea present since Qoobo's initial conception. However, it was once discarded because expressing it through the expansion and contraction of lungs during breathing, as in animals, would have made the main body structure too complex. We revisited this theme with Petit Qoobo.
Qoobo's project began with a designer at Yukai Engineering thinking, “What if a comforting presence was waiting at home when you return tired?” This led to the goal of creating a robot that provides comfort like a dog or cat, focusing specifically on the animal's “tail.” We focused on achieving the perfect weight and size for sitting on your lap or picking up, along with a pleasant texture when stroked. We researched real tails and developed mechanisms and programs to replicate their movements.
