Originally broadcast as a TV miniseries during the early days of television, this work can be considered the origin of the wildly popular “The Heroic Harimao.” Unlike the cool hero of the TV version, this story follows the son of a Japanese barber living in Malaysia. With the start of the Pacific War, he becomes consumed by a desire for revenge against his persecuted family, turning into a bandit who runs rampant. Eventually, however, he becomes an agent of the Japanese military, following their orders and becoming active on their behalf. It is a war propaganda film calling for Malays and Japanese to cooperate and fight against the Allied forces to maintain peace on the Malay Peninsula. Harimao means tiger in Malay. Kichijiro Ueda, who later became known as a distinctive villain, also appears in the film.
