Product Description
Beaver Corporation “1/72 Scale Japanese Aircraft Carrier Akagi Bridge and Flight Deck 1941 Pearl Harbor Attack Includes 1/16 Scale Japanese Navy Admiral Figure” Plastic Model Kit.
The Akagi was an aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Construction began at the Kure Naval Arsenal in 1907 as a battlecruiser under the 8-8 Fleet Plan.
However, construction was halted due to the Washington Naval Treaty and disarmament agreements. It was then converted from a battlecruiser to an aircraft carrier within the treaty's restrictions.
Initially completed as a three-deck carrier, she was later converted into a single-deck, full-length carrier.
Akagi participated in the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, then advanced into the Indian Ocean, engaging British forces in the Battle of the Indian Ocean in April 1942.
She was sunk alongside the Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu during the Battle of Midway in June of the same year.
The hammocks (mantlets) wrapped around the bridge perimeter can be displayed either attached or detached.
