Aoshima Cultural Textbook Co., Ltd. - Waterline Series - Imperial Japanese Navy - Aircraft Carrier - Plastic Model Kit Product Description Originally built as a seaplane tender under the Showa 9 (1934) Second Naval Armament Supplement Plan, it was converted into a Type A Target Ship in Showa 15 (1940). Following the loss of the main carrier force at the Battle of Midway, it was further converted into an aircraft carrier in Showa 18 (1943). \
In its first engagement at the Battle of the Philippine Sea, it was assigned to the 3rd Fleet's 3rd Air Squadron, equipped with Zero fighters carrying 250kg bombs and used as bombers. It participated in Operation Ichigo the following year and was sunk by U.S. aircraft at the Battle of Cape Engaño.\
