The German-born Volkswagen Beetle, a car for the masses, featured an open-top Cabriolet model in its lineup as early as 1949. Karman Ghia handled the bodywork, evidenced by the emblem on the front quarter panel. The thick, durable fabric top offered excellent weather resistance, and the car's distinctive silhouette with the large folded top stowed in the rear was part of its charm. From 1971, the 1302S with its MacPherson strut front suspension became the base model, and in 1973, the panoramic window 1303S served as the base. Production continued until 1980, even after the Beetle ceased production in Germany in 1978. In Japan, “Convertible” was the official name. The model code 15ADK signifies 15 for the 4-seater cabriolet and AD for the 1600cc AD-type engine.\
