Description
Hasegawa - German Air Force - Focke-Wulf - Fw 190D-9 - Plastic Model Kit
Product Description
1/32 scale plastic model.
Developed as a supplementary fighter to the Bf109, the Fw190A series became a masterpiece fighter surpassing the Bf109. To address its sole weakness—a significant drop in engine power when climbing above 6,000m—the liquid-cooled Jumo 213 engine-equipped D series was developed. However, it did not sufficiently achieve the target improvement in high-altitude performance.
Nevertheless, its flight performance at medium altitudes and below improved dramatically. Consequently, the Luftwaffe decided to adopt it as a new medium-altitude fighter, and production of the first mass-produced D-9 variant began in August 1944. The D series comprised seven types (including planned models) from the D-9 to the D-15, with the D-9 being the most extensively produced variant. Nicknamed the “Longnose Dora” (LANGNASEN-DORA) due to its elongated nose, the extended forward fuselage resulted in a lengthened rear fuselage and a larger vertical stabilizer. The late-production D-9 canopy featured the standard Garland Haube with its prominent upper bulge. The Papagei Staffel (Parrot Squadron) was formed within the elite JV44 (44th Fighter Wing) under General Garland to provide air cover during takeoffs and landings for the Me262 jet fighter. The striking red and white striped paint scheme on the underside was intended to avoid friendly fire from anti-aircraft guns.
