It is said he chose one poem each from one hundred renowned poets spanning the eras from Emperor Tenji to Juntoku-in, and had them mounted on the sliding doors of his Ogura Mountain Villa in Saga, Kyoto. From the early modern period onward, it spread among the common people as utaguruta (poetry cards) and became known as the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu. Recommended Age: 6 years and up
