Middle Ages is a draft and set collection board game by Marc-André, creator of Splendor and Barony. It features simple rules that deliver solid strategic depth and mind games, complemented by eye-catching artwork.
In Middle Ages, players become one of the lords of a kingdom, aiming to prosper their domain and amass the greatest wealth. On your turn, place your lord token on any tile in the next row and take the tile that was previously occupied, placing it in your domain. The eight tile types each possess unique abilities. Collecting tiles of the same type makes earning coins easier, but you lose points at the end of the game based on the number of tile types not placed in your domain. Furthermore, the tiles to be played are always revealed up to three rounds ahead.
Turn order starts with the player who placed their lord piece closest to the front row in the previous round. However, since some tiles appear near the front row more easily than others, having the first turn isn't always advantageous. It's crucial to choose where to place your piece not only based on tiles you want, but also by considering which tiles other players desire and how they might move.
Each player takes one turn to complete one round. The game ends after 12 rounds.
The player with the most coins at that point wins.
