Pit Road - Skywave Series - Seaplane Carrier - Plastic Model - W210
Product Description
The Noto, a representative pre-war seaplane carrier, was originally completed in 1920 at Kawasaki Shipyard as the lead ship of a large replenishment ship class. However, it was converted into a seaplane carrier in June 1934 to replace the aging first-generation seaplane carrier Wakamiya and was assigned to the Sasebo Naval District.
Featuring a tanker-type hull with engines aft, this ship was larger than the Wakamiya, increasing its capacity. Aircraft were stored on the upper deck, covered by wooden canopies installed fore and aft of the bridge. Aircraft hoisting and recovery utilized reinforced and extended fore and aft derrick posts.
This modification reduced bridge visibility, necessitating the addition of a pilot house below the foremast.
During the war, she served in aircraft transport and heavy oil transport duties. She was undergoing repairs for damage sustained from a torpedo attack by a U.S. submarine when the war ended.
