Pit Road - Skywave Series - Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force - FFM-8 - J112 Product Introduction Pit Road 1/700 Skywave Series Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Escort Ship FFM-8 Yūbetsu Plastic Model J112 The FFM-8 Mogami-class multi-functional mine countermeasure frigate, designated 30FFM, is the latest escort vessel specialized for sweeping advanced mines. It carries anti-mine sonar, autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) mine detectors, and unmanned surface vehicles (USV) for mine clearance. \
The lead ship, Mogami, entered service in April 2022 (though the second ship, Kuma, was commissioned first). Construction and commissioning proceeded smoothly thereafter, with the seventh ship, Niyodo, entering service in May 2025, and the eighth ship, Yūbetsu, in June of the same year. \
These two ships were equipped with VLS (Vertical Launching System) from commissioning, which had been a later-fit feature on previous ships. \
