Woody Joe-150-Maruoka Castle-Wooden Model-Assembly Kit
The model is built to a 1/150 scale, precisely recreating the castle's defining features: stone steps, stone drop, and hip-and-gable roof. The main keep and its base frame feature an easy-to-assemble laser-cut construction. \
Maruoka Castle was built in 1576 during the Sengoku period by Katsutoyo, nephew of Shibata Katsuie, under the orders of Oda Nobunaga as a defense against the Ikkō uprising.\
Its exterior is a two-story structure, while the interior is a three-story watchtower-style keep. \
The stone walls were built using the ancient “nozura-zumi” method, characterized by numerous gaps and a rough appearance. However, this method is said to provide excellent drainage, eliminating concerns about collapse during heavy rains. \
After Shibata Katsutoyo, the castle lords were Yasui Iekiyo, Aoyama Muneshige, and Aoyama Tadamoto. In 1613 (Keichō 18), Honda Narishige took over, but the Honda clan was stripped of their fief after four generations.\
In 1695 (Genroku 8), (1695), Arima Kiyozumi entered the castle with a fief of 50,000 koku from Echigo Itoigawa. As a flatland castle with a built-up style, its appearance floating amidst spring's full bloom of cherry blossoms, as befits its nickname “Kasumigajo” (Misty Castle), is fantastically beautiful and has been designated a National Important Cultural Property. \
