The EMU3000 is the latest express train model for Taiwan Railways (hereafter referred to as TRA). As the flagship of TRA, a total of 600 cars are scheduled for deployment. It began operation in late 2021 to replace older rolling stock used on the Tze-Chiang (equivalent to Japan's limited express) and Kyokogo (equivalent to Japan's express) passenger trains, as well as diesel railcars on the electrified Nanhui Line. Brand Name: KATO As the flagship of TRA, a total of 600 units are scheduled for deployment. Service commenced in late 2021 to replace older rolling stock operating the Tze-Chiang (equivalent to Japan's limited express) and Kyoko (equivalent to Japan's express) passenger trains, as well as diesel railcars on the electrified South Link Line. Since 2019, TRA has been refreshing its stations and rolling stock based on the concept of “TRA Aesthetic Revival (FUTURE?RENAISSANCE)”. Based on this philosophy, the EMU3000 also features a modern design with a simple monotone base and accent colors above the doors, under the slogan “Let's create a limited express train that can be proud to be known worldwide”. The train consists of 12 cars, each 20 meters long, to increase the transport capacity of conventional trains. Car 6 is equipped with a business class cabin (Tounzaso) equivalent to Japan's Green Car.
