Hasegawa-72-Imperial Japanese Army-Type 4 Fighter-Plastic Model Kit

Product Description
1/72 scale plastic model kit.
The Type 4 Fighter Hayate (Key 84) was a fighter produced by Nakajima, the renowned manufacturer behind the Army's mainstay fighters like the Type 97 (Key 27), Hayabusa (Key 43), and Shoki (Key 44). It was equipped with a 2000-horsepower Ha-45 engine, offering excellent speed and maneuverability, combined with powerful armament and armor. Following its formal adoption in late March 1944, it was produced as the “Greater East Asia Decisive Battle Fighter” and saw fierce combat defending the Chinese mainland, the Philippines, Okinawa, and the home islands. Particularly on the Chinese mainland, it performed so well against opponents like the P-51 that it temporarily regained air superiority, fighting on equal terms or better.
However, after mass production began, issues arose due to declining material quality and manufacturing techniques, leading to performance problems with the engine and other components. Despite these adverse conditions, approximately 3,500 aircraft were produced, alongside the Zero and Hayabusa.
After the war, the Hayate was tested in the United States and was highly praised as “the finest Japanese fighter aircraft to appear in the Pacific War.”
