Hasegawa - US Navy - F4U-5N Corsair - Plastic Model Kit

Product Description
The F4U-5, the culmination of the F4U Corsair series comprehensively modernized and produced after World War II, was the Navy's fastest piston-engine fighter at the time, surpassing the top speed of the F8F-2.
The engine's forward-mounted position and the slightly enlarged cowling accentuated the nose's length, creating a distinctive appearance.
Additionally, the carburetor air intake on the underside of the nose was split into two sections, resulting in a bulging lower section on both sides (a rice ball shape) that became a major characteristic of the F4U-5. The F4U-5N was a single-seat piston-engine night fighter. Its airframe was fundamentally identical to the F4U-5, with the primary difference being the radar mounted on the right wing. Due to the addition of dual radio equipment, an auxiliary antenna was installed behind the vertical tail fin. To reduce pilot workload, it featured an autopilot system. To ensure pilot visibility during night operations, the exhaust pipes were fitted with flame-dampers, with a flame-retardant plate installed further rearward and upward.
The F4U-5NL was a cold-weather variant adapted for the harsh conditions of North Korea, featuring rubber de-icing boots on each wing leading edge and water-methanol spray de-icing systems on the propeller leading edge and windscreen. Production numbers were 214 F4U-5Ns and 101 F4U-5NLs.
Lt. Guy P. Bordelon of VC-3 Detachment D flew an F4U-5N (Bu.No.124453) and shot down five enemy aircraft between June 29 and July 17, 1953. He earned the honor of being the only Triple Threat Ace in the Korean War—an ace flying a propeller-driven fighter, an ace flying a naval fighter, and an ace flying a jet fighter. propeller-driven ace, and Navy ace. He was the only pilot to achieve this Triple Threat Ace honor. After flying 35 sorties in the aforementioned F4U-5N, Lt. Bordelon left the aircraft behind when he withdrew. Shortly thereafter, the F4U-5N (Bu.No.124453) was crashed by an Air Force pilot. The F4U-5N (Bu.No.124453) had a period with five kill marks, but the box art depicts it with two kills. ※This product is a plastic model kit requiring assembly and painting. ※Additional items such as glue, tools, and paint are required for assembly and painting. ※“Plastic Model” is a registered trademark owned by the Japan Plastic Model Manufacturers Association.
