Product Description
Following the First Antarctic Observation Expedition, the Sōya underwent major modifications for each subsequent expedition, the Second and Third.
The forward deck was changed to a flat state without side cutouts.
A large helicopter launch deck was added. The bridge was extended laterally.
A forward gate mast was added, and the position of the aft gate mast was changed.
Thin bilge keels, divided into four sections on each side, were equipped.
A large helicopter was carried, among other modifications.
The third refit particularly focused on enhancing air transport capability with large helicopters, enabling sufficient transport of personnel and supplies even when the Sōya couldn't approach the base due to deteriorating weather conditions.
The kit features newly developed upper hull, bridge, deck, helicopter deck, and derrick masts.
Included aircraft: one new DHC-2 seaplane and two new Sikorsky S-58 helicopters.
