Fujimi Models - Special Series - No. 20 - Imperial Japanese Navy Heavy Cruiser Kumano (1942) Product Introduction We present the Kumano, part of the “7th Squadron 1st Division” that played a key role in the early Pacific War's Dutch East Indies campaign. This model captures the characteristics of the late-model Mogami-class ships and the individual differences from its sister ship, the Suzuyama. Additionally, it employs an extra mold to recreate the ship's appearance as of 1942.
▪️This product depicts the fourth ship of the Mogami class, the Kumano, around 1942, before combat lessons were incorporated into her design.
▪️The hull sides feature dedicated parts reflecting the early wartime appearance: a hull cross-section different from the Mogami/Mikuma and unsealed portholes. Hull Structure ・Dedicated parts depict the unsealed portholes characteristic of the early wartime period. ・External electrical wiring is molded as a single piece with the hull, depicting the different equipment placement compared to the Mogami/Mikuma. Bridge/Forward Mast ・The forward mast uses a dedicated part for the 1942 specification, featuring the pre-war addition of a command post but no radar equipment. ・The anti-aircraft command post includes a separate part for the lookout binoculars, and the floor surface is precisely engraved to depict the grating. Funnels/Air Intakes/Linoleum Deck ・Dedicated parts reproduce the slender funnels characteristic of Suzuyama/Kumano. ・Dedicated parts recreate the distinct shape and size of the boiler room air intakes beneath the funnels, differing from those on Mogami/Mikuma. Anti-Aircraft Gun Mounts/Antenna Supports ・The twin 12.7cm anti-aircraft gun mounts feature protrusions on the rear, specific to Kumano/Suzuyama. ・The antenna supports mounted on the 3rd/4th main turret roofs are unique parts reproducing each ship's specific shape. Aft Mast/Aft Bridge/Crane ・The aft mast uses a Kumano-specific part with a vertical top and Y-shaped yardarms, reproducing the difference from Suzuyo. ・Features crane parts distinct from Suzuyo, characterized by a lightweight hole shape with precise sculpted detailing. The assembly manual includes mini-explanations providing information on equipment names and the actual ships while you build.
