700 - Special Series - No. 21 - Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier - Plastic Model Product Introduction
The Taiho aircraft carrier features an enclosed bow, a funnel integrated with the bridge, and a distinctive armored shape, with new parts added.
This is an unpainted kit that requires glue assembly and painting.
The scale is 1/700, and this underwater model does not include the bottom of the ship.
This product is made up of the previous (Special Series) mold and newly designed additional parts.
The aircraft carrier Taiho was built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries according to the 1939 plan and completed in March 1943 during the war.
With a different tactical philosophy from previous aircraft carriers, this armored aircraft carrier was designed for use as a relay point for air units during out-of-range tactics. While its standard displacement was 29,300 tons, surpassing the Shokaku-class, the Taiho's deck was one layer less due to the addition of armor, and it carried 52 regular aircraft. Its funnel and bridge were integrated, and its bow was enclosed, giving it a distinctive appearance. After its completion, the Taiho formed the First Carrier Division with the Shokaku and Zuikaku. It participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, but a torpedo attack by a US submarine caused aviation gasoline to leak onboard, vaporizing and exploding, leading to its sinking. This product is based on the ship's appearance from the time of its completion to the Battle of the Philippine Sea. The flight deck, which has been the subject of various theories, is depicted with specially designed parts carved with a wooden deck motif. Newly designed parts are available to standardize the accuracy of equipment reproductions due to product release dates, and some parts are separated for easy painting. The No. 21 radar, including the insulator base for mounting the element on the front side, is depicted with more delicate carvings than previous accessories.
