The battleship Kongo was the oldest of the 12 battleships that fought in the Pacific War, completed in 1913 by Vickers in the UK.
With a length of 222 meters and a beam of 28.96 meters, it was equipped with eight 35.6 cm 45-caliber main guns. After its second and final refit, it was a battleship characterized by its high speed, reaching a speed of 30.3 knots. With the outbreak of the Pacific War, she participated in the Southern Invasion and Indian Ocean Operations, accompanying the Task Force. During the Battle of Guadalcanal, she participated in many memorable operations, including bombarding airfields alongside the third ship, the Haruna. After participating in the Battle of Leyte Gulf (Operation Sho-Ichi-Go) in October 1944, she was sunk in action by a torpedo attack from a US submarine while sailing through the Taiwan Strait. \
