Product Introduction
The Imperial Japanese Navy Series “Japanese Navy Light Cruiser Yahagi” is being reissued with a 2-piece 25mm machine gun included.
The light cruiser “Yahagi” was the third ship of the Agano class, completed at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal in December 1943 during wartime.
The Agano-class was planned as flagship for torpedo squadrons, featuring a distinctly modern appearance and armament unlike the previous 5,500-ton class.
She carried three twin 15 cm main guns and two twin newly developed 8 cm high-angle guns.
After commissioning, Yahagi participated in major engagements including the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Between engagements, upgrades were made, including reinforcing anti-aircraft armament. In April 1945, during Operation Ten-Go to counter the US landing on Okinawa, she sailed as flagship of the 2nd Destroyer Squadron to escort the battleship Yamato. Overwhelmed by superior US carrier-based aircraft, she was hit by at least seven torpedoes and twelve bombs and was sunk en route to Okinawa.
▪️Products can be selected from multiple annual conditions. ・Final configuration when deployed to Okinawa alongside Yamato during Operation Ten-Go in April 1945, equipped with 28 x 25mm single-mount machine guns.
・Post-Battle of the Philippine Sea (late June 1944), equipped with 18 × 25mm single-mount machine guns, before the modification of the flight deck configuration.
・As of the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, in its configuration where the single-mount machine guns were not yet reinforced.
▪️ Parts corresponding to Yahagi's annual changes are included.
・The support tubes for the high-angle rangefinders are separate parts to accommodate shape changes between 1944 and 1945.
・Two distinct parts for the flight deck accommodate different opening configurations for each year.
・Two dedicated parts for the stern deck area reproduce the varying fittings present in different years.
・Two types of davits for the bridge fore sides are included: deployed and stowed. The deployed version is for 1944, showing the ship without landing craft loaded.
The instruction manual has been redesigned for improved readability and clarity.
The product features a full hull specification, allowing reproduction down to the keel, and includes a display stand for showcasing the completed model.
Both the traditional one-piece 25mm twin machine gun parts and more precise two-piece parts are included.
The two-piece 25mm machine guns facilitate easy color separation painting: gunmetal for the barrel and hull color for the base. Two types of decals are included, featuring the Imperial Japanese Navy ensign, the Rising Sun flag, and carrier aircraft markings.
