Description
Wave Series - Snap-Fit - No. 8 - Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier - Plastic Model Kit Akagi joins the Wave Series, featuring a sea surface stage that allows for simple and realistic display of the ship underway after completion.. No painting required: Each part is colored in its molded color, with some parts featuring decals for added detail. \
\
No glue required: Designed for easy snap-fit assembly.\
The aircraft carrier Akagi was one of the Imperial Japanese Navy's flagship carriers. Originally planned as the second ship of the Amagi-class battlecruisers, construction was halted due to the Washington Naval Treaty. It was instead converted into an aircraft carrier and completed in 1927. \
Originally featuring multiple flight decks, it was modified at Sasebo Naval Arsenal into a single-deck configuration.\
During the Pacific War, it served as a main carrier in the Nagumo Strike Force, participating in the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Indian Ocean campaign.\
In June 1942, during the Midway Island campaign, it was hit by enemy fire, suffered a major fire, and was sunk by torpedoes from friendly destroyers. \
(Structure & Specification Features)\
・Composed of pre-colored parts, allowing the intended color scheme to be reproduced without painting.\
・Snap-fit assembly enables construction without adhesives.\
・Includes a sea base to realistically and easily display the ship navigating the ocean. \
(Product Features)\
・Models the ship's appearance during the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941 (at the start of the war), scale 1/700.\
・Produced using later mold designs and manufacturing techniques compared to other series (Special Series) of the same scale.\
・The finished product is a surface model type, reproducing the section above the waterline. \
・Parts are molded in a gray color (mimicking the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal color used for the Yokosuka Naval District-registered ship that entered Yokosuka Naval Arsenal in 1942) based on historical records.\
・The display sea base realistically depicts wake waves generated by the bow, sides, and propellers.\
Hull\
・The hull is split left and right at the waterline. Molded in a dedicated gray color imitating the warship color used at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal.\
・The sides are split left and right, with portholes and external electrical circuits expressed through sharply defined, three-dimensional sculpting.\
・Outfitting items and structures like fairleaders are realistically reproduced with sharp sculpting. \
Flight Deck\
・The flight deck features separate parts for the steel section and wooden deck. Color separation can be achieved without painting.\
・The wooden deck features delicate sculpting, providing a realistic appearance even unpainted and sufficient depth for panel lining when painted.\
・The elevator's eye rings are rendered with fine sculpting.\
・Surrounding drainage gutters, windbreaks, and the truss structure underneath are detailed with intricate, three-dimensional forms. \
Bow\
・The bow anchor deck features integrated fittings, with anchor chains and other elements reproduced in three-dimensional form.\
・The crane rails beneath the stern flight deck are separate parts, reflecting meticulous attention to even less visible details.\
・The main and auxiliary supports for the flight deck are reproduced with delicate parts. Outfitting\
・The funnel features a separate top section molded in black to replicate the unpainted color separation without painting, while also reproducing the depth of the exhaust ports. \
・The bridge features realistic molding around its entire circumference, achieved through slide molding.\
・The 20cm guns mounted on both sides of the stern are superbly sculpted, even capturing the wrinkles in the canvas covers. \
Carrier Aircraft\
・The included carrier aircraft represent the three types carried from December 1941 to its sinking in June 1942: Zero fighters, Type 99 carrier bombers, and Type 97 carrier attack planes. .\
The Zero Fighter and Type 99 Carrier-Based Dive Bomber are molded in light gray, allowing easy color reproduction by applying the included Hinomaru marking decals.\
・The Type 97 Carrier-Based Torpedo Bomber is molded in dark green.\
Each aircraft is 1:1 scale.
