Product Introduction
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's new submarine, the Soryu, is the first domestically produced submarine equipped with an AIP (Air-Independent Propulsion) system.
To enhance stealth, the hull and sail are covered with sound-absorbing tiles, and the rudder employs an X-rudder design offering high underwater maneuverability and reduced risk of damage.
Additionally, features like a streamlined fillet fitted to the front of the sail give it a distinct appearance compared to existing vessels.
Starting with the 11th vessel, “Ōryū,” and the 12th vessel, “Tōryū,” commissioned in 2020, the 12 Sōryū-class submarines feature lithium-ion batteries instead of the AIP system and lead-acid batteries, further enhancing their underwater operational capabilities.
