The Russian Navy's Kirov-class was a massive 28,000-ton vessel with combined nuclear and steam turbine propulsion. The lead ship, Kirov (later renamed Admiral Ushakov in the Russian Navy), entered service in 1980 and was classified as a heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser.
