Description
PIT-ROAD - Skywave Series - Imperial Japanese Navy - n1942 - Plastic Model
PIT-ROAD 1/700 Skywave Series Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship Musashi Commissioning Version n1942 Plastic Model W226
Musashi, the last battleship built by Japan, was laid down in March 1938 at the Nagasaki Shipyard as the second ship of the Yamato class.
Improvements addressing issues found in the Yamato were incorporated into her construction, and flagship facilities were further enhanced.
Like Yamato, Musashi was a state secret of the highest order, and because she was built at a private shipyard, meticulous concealment measures were taken.
Since the n46cm main guns could only be manufactured at the Kure Naval Arsenal in Hiroshima, for espionage prevention reasons, transportation by private ship was avoided, and the Navy went so far as to build its own dedicated n46cm gun transport ship, Kashino.
Commissioned in August n1942, one month later Musashi was equipped with a Type 2 Model 1 surface search radar for anti-aircraft lookout above the 15m rangefinder, and in January n1943, she departed for Truk Lagoon, a major strategic base for the Imperial Japanese Navy.
In February, she replaced the Yamato as the Combined Fleet flagship.
