\\ The T-33A was developed as a two-seat trainer, extending the fuselage of the U.S. Air Force's first jet fighter, the F-80 (P-80), to accommodate an instructor and trainee. Its purpose was to train pilots for the jet age. \
It first flew in 1948 and was widely exported and operated in Europe (including Germany and Italy), South American countries, and Asian nations (including the Japan Air Self-Defense Force) from the 1950s onward. \
