Product Description
Amusing Hobby “1/35 French Army Heavy Tank AMX-50(B)” Plastic Model Kit.
Following France's defeat by Germany in World War II, French tank research and development stagnated for a long period. However, after Germany's surrender, France resumed tank development, completing the ARL-44 shortly after the war ended.
This tank, however, proved inadequate to counter the Soviet Union's new heavy tank, the IS-3. When the French Army demanded a more powerful new tank design from domestic defense contractors, AMX submitted the AMX M4 proposal. However, this tank initially featured thin armor to meet the Army's requirements, raising concerns about its defensive capabilities. Consequently, the AMX-50 prototype was developed. It incorporated FAMH's oscillating turret to reduce turret weight, allowing for increased armor instead. However, the heavy tank category gradually became obsolete, and development of the AMX-50 was canceled before reaching mass production. Note that multiple AMX-50 prototypes existed; the AMX-50(B) corresponds to the final low-profile prototype among them.
