Sweet 1/144 Imperial Japanese Army Type 1 Fighter Hayabusa Model 1 Flight Squadron No. 59 (Malayan Falcon) 2-Pack Plastic Model Kit 14149
The Flight Squadron No. 59 was the first unit to deploy the Type 1 Fighter (Ki-43 Hayabusa Model 1), the Army's first retractable landing gear fighter.
The 64th Squadron followed suit.
Initially, during the transition from the Type 97 Fighter, structural weakness led to in-flight disintegration accidents in both squadrons. This necessitated wing reinforcement and modifications. Both squadrons returned from bases in China to Tachikawa for these modifications before advancing to French Indochina (present-day Vietnam) to prepare for the outbreak of war.
Both squadrons played a major role in the initial Malaya invasion operation at the outbreak of war. They provided close air support for Army landing convoys, air superiority for ground forces, and escort for friendly bombers. Leveraging their superior performance—a 1.5 times greater range and a top speed 35 km/h faster than the Type 97 fighter—they achieved significant combat successes.
Each box contains two Hayabusa Model 1 kits with decals for five aircraft.
Based on the latest research, we provide five sets of decals for the liveries of aircraft from the 1st and 2nd Squadrons of the 59th Fighter Squadron, the first unit in the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force to deploy the Hayabusa Model 1.
