Attaching Kami Yasu. to a backing plate creates a cushioned, “non-bending” file.
This allows you to apply the file evenly across the entire surface, even on slightly undulating flat surfaces.

Edge-raising files are good for precisely defining surfaces or standing edges upright, but with zero cushioning, they struggle to smoothly connect surfaces with subtle undulations.
