Product Introduction
Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno (1985)
The Trueno, introduced in May 1983, deliberately adopted a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive (FR) layout in an era where front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FF) was the norm. The engine was also changed from the previous generation's 2T-G to the newly developed 4A-G. Body variations included both a 3-door hatchback and a 2-door coupe, shared with its sibling model, the Levin. Model designations varied by engine: the 4A-G-equipped version was AE86, while the 1500cc 3A-U-equipped version was AE85. Its popularity remains undiminished to this day.
