Product Description
Among the third-generation main battle tanks of the Western world after the war, the French Army's Leclerc main battle tank incorporated numerous advanced features for its time. Its pioneering vehicle electronic system computer-controlled all primary tank functions, enabling real-time transmission of position and status to allied vehicles and command posts. The smoothly contoured turret houses France's independently developed 120mm smoothbore gun and automatic loading system, allowing engagement of six targets within 35 seconds even while moving. Furthermore, its armor plates are modular and interchangeable, facilitating easy repair and modification. The 132 vehicles completed by 1996 are known as Series 1. Subsequently, Series 2 appeared starting in 1997, featuring improvements including a newly installed large air conditioning unit for the computer on the turret roof. A total of 178 vehicles were produced by 2003.
